“Theatre and women on the move. We recount a very intense period in which our theatre work gave a voice to hundreds of women from all over the world and of all ages, enabling them to share sensitive, complex, intimate and deeply human issues. Through excerpts selected from the productions staged over the years, we speak of people and dignity. Of female subjectivity, complex and multifaceted. We talk about self-determination, courage, migration and second chances. We recount our encounter with Verdi, his music and the heroines of his operas. Courageous women, yet also marginalised and often deprived of their rights, forced to flee, who have experienced exile and understood the meaning of separation and distance. We recognised ourselves in them: their strength and fragility spoke directly to us. We are telling the story of a book that recounts this experience, and the words do not remain on the page but become voices, gestures and a tangible presence, allowing the audience to share with us the emotions we have experienced.”
