The Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) project at the Teatro Regio in Parma was launched to mark La Nostra Prima 2025, thanks to Città in CAA.
Città in CAA® is an inclusive urban communication project that aims to remove communication barriers and promote the independence of people with complex communication needs. At the Teatro Regio di Parma, the project involves the creation of accessible signage and support materials, using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) symbols. The aim is to make it easier for people who have difficulty using spoken language – such as those with communication disabilities, deaf people or foreign nationals – to understand and enjoy the theatre’s spaces and activities. These materials will enable users to prepare for the theatre experience, find their way around the premises and familiarise themselves with theatre-specific vocabulary, thereby enhancing their participation and cultural inclusion. The project helps to make the theatre a more welcoming, accessible and inclusive place for everyone.
