alignwide\">Synopsis<\/h2>\n\n\n\t<div class=\"toggable-content \">\r\n\t\t<div class=\"title\">PROLOGUE<\/div>\r\n\t\t<div class=\"content\">\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the Peruvian plain not far from the River Rima (the R\u00edo R\u00edmac), a group of Incas led by Otumbo drag the Spanish governor Alvaroin chains. Bound and threatened with death (chorus: \u201cMuoia, muoia coverto d\u2019insulti\u201d), Alvaro prays to God to forgive his tormentors. Suddenly a man approaches in a canoe across the river: it is the Inca warrior Zamoro, whom everyone believed had been killed under Spanish torture. Zamoro immediately orders Alvaro to be released, unwilling to have his return stainedby murder. He urges the Spaniard to report this act of mercy to his countrymen, so that they may see who the true barbarian really is. Alvaro embraces him. But there is no time to lose. Zamoro expresses his hatred for the tyrannical Gusmano (cavatina: \u201cUn Inca, eccesso orribile\u201d) and resolves to rescue Alzira and her father Ataliba, who are prisoners of the conquistadors (cabaletta: \u201cRisorto fra le tenebre\u201d). Alljoin in a battle hymn (chorus: \u201cDio della guerra\u201d).<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n\t\n\n\t<div class=\"toggable-content \">\r\n\t\t<div class=\"title\">ACT I<\/div>\r\n\t\t<div class=\"content\">\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the square of Lima, Spanish troops assemble, discussing rumours that the King of Spain has ordered further conquests in America (chorus: \u201cGiunse or or, da lido ispano\u201d). They then welcome the new governor, Gusmano, introduced by his father Alvaro. As his first act, Gusmano announces his desire for peace between Spaniards and Incas. He demands that Ataliba swear an alliance between the two peoples and reminds him of the pledge promised in exchange for peace, though he does not name it directly. Ataliba understands that he is referring to Alzira\u2019s hand in marriage, but hesitates, explaining that her heart still belongs to another and that the time is not yet right. Gusmano sighs (cavatina: \u201cEterna la memoria\u201d) and, despite his father\u2019s advice to remain patient, urges Ataliba to obtain Alzira\u2019s consent quickly, for he cannot bear&nbsp; to possess glory without a woman by his side (cabaletta: \u201cQuanto un mortal pu\u00f2 chiedere\u201d). In Ataliba\u2019s apartments, Alzira lies exhausted by grief. Her sister Zuma and the maidens pray for her. Suddenly she awakens, calling Zamoro\u2019s name. He is the man she loves. She recounts a dream in which he rescued her after she had fled from Gusmano in a fragile canoe (cavatina: \u201cDa Gusman, su fragil barca\u201d). Zuma and the women urge her to abandon such dreams and return to reality: Zamoro is dead (cabaletta: \u201cNell\u2019astro che pi\u00f9 fulgido\u201d). Ataliba arrives to press Alzira to marry Gusmano. She rebels: Gusmano is a cruel tyrant who murdered Zamoro, and she will never marry him. Ataliba insists that she must, for Gusmano truly loves her and this marriage is the only way to prevent further bloodshed. As soon as he leaves, Zuma announces that one of the Inca prisoners wishes to speak with her. Alzira agrees and finds herself face to face with a living Zamoro. Overjoyed, they embrace (duet: \u201cChe fia? Qual mai cagion lo tragge\u201d). Their reunion is interrupted by the sudden arrival of Gusmano and Ataliba, followed by Zuma, the maidens and Spanish soldiers. Gusmano orders Zamoro\u2019s execution, despite Ataliba\u2019s protests and Alzira\u2019s tears. The soldiers drag Zamoro away, but at that moment Alvaro enters and recognizes him as the Inca who saved his life. He asks his son to release him, but Gusmano refuses. General anguish follows (finale: \u201cTeco sperai combattere\u201d). The tension is broken by the Spanish captain Ovando, who announces that Inca warriors are advancing to rescue Zamoro. Gusmano then changes his mind. To prove himself worthy of his father, he offers one life in exchange for another: Zamoro\u2019s life, in repayment for the life he saved. Yet Zamoro must not be deceived\u2014their paths will cross again soon.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n\t\n\n\t<div class=\"toggable-content \">\r\n\t\t<div class=\"title\">ACT II<\/div>\r\n\t\t<div class=\"content\">\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The battle has ended with yet another Spanish victory, and the soldiers celebrate with a toast (chorus: \u201cMesci, mesci\u201d). The prisoners are brought in, among them Zamoro. Ovando presents his death sentence to Gusmano, who arrives with Alzira to enjoy the fruits of triumph. Before signing the sentence, Gusmano reads it aloud and makes Alzira understand that her consent to marry him will save Zamoro\u2019s life. Her protests only irritate him further (duet: \u201cScegli \u2013 il pianto&#8230; l\u2019angoscia\u201d), and he prepares to sign. Faced with no alternative, Alzirayields and agrees. In a cave, the surviving Incas gather around Otumbo, who brings unexpected news. Thanks to gold\u2014worthless to them yet so coveted by the Europeans\u2014he has bribed a guard, secured Zamoro\u2019s release and obtained a Spanish uniform for him. Zamoro, however, is devastated. He cannot bear the thought of Alzira marrying Gusmano (aria: \u201cIrne lungi ancor dovrei\u201d). Yet now he can act. When Otumbo points out that Alzira will soon belong to Gusmano, Zamoro erupts in fury and resolves to go to Lima and take revenge. In the Governor\u2019s palace in Lima, Alzira\u2019s maidens urge her to cast off her sorrow in anticipation of the wedding (chorus: \u201cTergi del pianto, America\u201d). Gusmano presents his bride to the assembled crowd (aria: \u201c\u00c8 dolce la tromba che suona vittoria\u201d), while Alzira longs only to disappear. At that moment a soldier steps forward from the crowd: it is Zamoro in disguise. He stabs Gusmano, achieving his revenge. From the entrance, a straight, level path leads directly to the stalls, where four seats are reserved for wheelchair users. A seat is reserved for a companion in the row adjacent to each seat designated for disabled spectators. The companion must remain present throughout the entire visit to the theatre if the spectator is unable to move independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spectators with temporary mobility impairments who hold a ticket or season ticket of any category (stalls, box, gallery) must notify the Box Office in good time; the Box Office reserves the right to change seat allocations where necessary in accordance with safety regulations. The Theatre also reserves the right to alter the number of available seats for technical or staging requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please also note that the layout of the emergency exits does not allow spectators entering the theatre in a wheelchair to sit down independently in a seat; therefore, to ensure they can leave the building as quickly as possible, such spectators are required to remain seated in their wheelchair for the entire duration of the performance. Similarly, spectators using mobility aids must take their seats in the reserved areas, which allow the aid to be stored nearby for rapid use in the event of an emergency. To use these seats, a prior request must be made by email to the Box Office (biglietteria@teatroregioparma.it), which will process the request and respond by allocating the most suitable seat in accordance with safety regulations and subject to availability.
