BORDERS ARE OPEN
Quattro Pezzi Sacri sulla rotta Balcanica
The show was conceived out of the necessity to speak about the condition of mankind, and in particular, about certain man and women, in relation to the immensity of the sea and the indifference of humanity. The aim is to empower the testimonies of migrants, refugees who asked for asylum in the Greek and Turkish refugee camps during Covid-19 pandemic, and how they became hostages of the Turkey-Europe negotiations. Their voices turn into both religious and lay prayers, widely echoing to the stars.
The audience will wear wireless earphones while seated in the wonderful location of Piazza della Pace. Through sound spatialisation, the listeners will find imagining themselves on the Island of Lesbo, in the Moria field, or simply seated near someone who asks questions towards the sky, sharing the expectation for answers and the doubt, whether the visions evoked were true or the fruit of our mind.
The performance represents the fight of Man against the unknowable beyond death: three compositions dedicated to the Virgin Mary (to whom Verdi offers his life after death, though in doubt of afterlife) and one prayer to God, the Te Deum, concluding with a vain call for God through the voice of a soloist soprano, who seems to launch her own question to God, but without obtaining an answer.
