Description
The FV Journal is the magazine to familiarise yourself with the operas by Giuseppe Verdi, produced in a simple and insightful way, full of memorable images and articles written for a broad audience by the highest calibre scholars and specialists.
Edited by Alessandro Roccatagliati and enriched with original illustrations commissioned to Davide Forleo, it is produced in collaboration with the Festival Verdi Scientific Committee, and directed by Francesco Izzo.
Macbeth, Un giorno di regno, Le Trouvère, Attila – the programmed operas for Festival Verdi 2018 – are at the heart of this first edition with contributions from Fabrizio Della Seta, Anselm Gerhard, Michele Girardi, Helen M. Greenwald, Francesco Izzo, David Lawton, Alessandro Roccatagliati, Antonio Rostagno, and Claudio Toscani.
Devoted to each opera are two essays, accompanied by extensive artwork: the first article is broader and introductory, reconstructing the origins of the opera and focusing on the important dramaturgical and musical aspects, whereas the second is dedicated to specific themes, exploring topics such as literary sources, and the cultural context of the opera.
The magazine invites the reader to reflect on the visual aspects and staging through a substantial collection of commented images, including period reproductions and recent stage photos.
